Cross Country Skiing

I am a very lazy, recreational cross country skier.

I've fallen in love with a pair of traditional wood Bonna touring skis with a hickory waxable base. I came across these somewhat randomly.. I was looking for a longer pair (more efficient) pair of skis at the Catlin rumage sale here in town.. these were so cheap at the end of the sale, and so beautiful that I had to get them, even if I didn't know if I could use them.

So all of a sudden I've got waxable base XC skis... a very different animal than the fishscale skis. the fishscales are a nice, all-condition tool... all they need is a little of the maxi-glide to prevent icing build up and they sort of work in everything. The waxable skis have to be futzed with constantly. But when the conditions are right and the bases are waxed right, they work beautifully.

Last year Fred and I skied up from Hwy 22 to Pamelia Lake, then up a few miles over that, then down. No brain, No pain. It was beautiful. I haven't done any skiing this year. Sam is just not really ready to appreciate being dragged around in a sled yet, and I'd rather spend time with him on the weekends.
